There may be a time when Timo Werner is universally loved and respected in Germany and at Tottenham, but it’s not today unfortunately.
In fact, we suspect that it might be some time before that ever happens to when we see a little positivity, we’ll take it. Fussball Transfers provide that today, albeit after getting a few digs in first.
They say that Werner is on an ‘upward trend’ at Tottenham but is still being plagued by an ‘old illness’ that has often held his career back.
It’s explained that while Werner was a star for Tottenham in the 3-1 win over Manchester United, he ‘simply didn’t score goals’.
That was a small negative in an otherwise impressive performance that offered a ‘small sign of life from the shadows’ for the player.
He’s been on a quiet run for months, to say the least, with a thigh injury earlier this year putting an end to the positive early signs he’d shown at Tottenham after arriving on loan from RB Leipzig.
He appeared to be back to his best against Manchester United and enjoyed a strong performance but showed a weakness when it came to finishing, something Fussball Transfers label as his ‘old illness’.
They say his ‘legs often seem too fast for his head’ and that leads to hasty finishes that stop him enjoying a better goal ration and leave others in the spotlight instead.
That was the case against Manchester United, but the positive to be taken from it is that his ‘form is on the up’. The belief is that if he can start converting chances, he will ‘finally be back from obscurity’.
