Newcastle United’s Yankuba Minteh is an ‘important weapon’ for Feyenoord, according to FCUpdate.nl.

In the last window, the Magpies took the forward from Odense Boldklub and then loaned him to the Eredivisie winners for one season.

Ex-Feyenoord striker Pierre van Hooijdonk told Studio Voetbal, relayed by FCUpdate.nl, that the Newcastle owned player can help the Dutch club be successful, especially in Europe, this season.

“I think Minteh is a very interesting player, especially for Feyenoord. Feyenoord doesn’t have that many players who can really outplay someone 1v1. He can do that, apart from the fact that he is also lightning fast. That also creates a lot of danger in away matches at European level,” he said.

Operating mainly on the right wing and at times as a striker, the 19-year-old has scored three goals and registered one assist from nine games for the Dutch club.

Van Hooijdonk is of the belief the Gambia international’s addition has given a “quality boost” to Arne Slot’s squad.

The Eredivisie side have a deal to retain the player on loan until the end of this season, and after Minteh’s impressive start, Feyenoord legend Willem van Hanegem has sent a message to his former club.

Writing his column for Algemeen Dagblad, relayed by FCUpdate.nl, Van Hanegem has urged the Dutch club’s officials to contact Newcastle to extend the attacker’s loan deal.

“I’ve enjoyed him for a few games already. That guy is extremely dangerous with his pace. If I were Feyenoord, I would now cast my doubts if he could be rented from Newcastle United for another year,” Van Hanegem explained.
