Manchester United’s Tahith Chong went out on loan to Werder Bremen in August, just months after signing a new contract at Old Trafford.
The winger arrived in the Bundesliga with high hopes of featuring regularly this season. He was initially expected to replace Milot Rashica, but the Kosovan didn’t move away from Werder Bremen in the last window.
Chong has seen his opportunities limited and he made his third league start in Werder Bremen’s 2-1 defeat to VfB Stuttgart on December 6th.
The Netherlands U21 international is yet to score a goal or register an assist in the league, and the German media have at times been critical about the 21-year-old displays this season.
Werder Bremen, however, have a different view about the Red Devils owned player, according to WESER-KURIER.
Clemens Fritz, Werder’s head of professional football and scouting, spoke about Chong’s overall game. He said: “Don’t forget that he’s a young player. We should give him a little time.
“He is dangerous because of his speed and his one-on-one behaviour, which is incredibly valuable to us is. We see a development there [defensively]. It’s going in the right direction.
Prior to Chong’s arrival on loan, there were claims the German side wanted to take the United wideman on a two-year loan deal. The Premier League club, however, had only agreed for one season.
When asked if Werder Bremen have held talks with Manchester United to extend Chong’s loan stay, Fritz said: “It’s too early for that.”
