Juventus chief Matteo Tognozzi rejected an opportunity to join Celtic earlier this year.
The Italian’s decision to snub Celtic could pay off as he is in contention to get an improved role at the Turin club.
According to Calciomercato, Juventus sporting director Federico Cherubini is in line to be promoted and this could see the Serie A side search for his successor.
Their plan is to look within the club first and this is where the report mentions Tognozzi as a candidate, along with Celtic’s failed approach.
It’s claimed Ange Postecoglou’s side made an ‘important offer’ to Tognozzi to become their new director of football. They further add that Celtic would have ‘given him the keys to the transfer market’.
However, Tognozzi didn’t entertain Celtic’s proposal and turned it down. Calciomercato say this happened in ‘recent months’ and don’t specify exactly when Postecoglou’s side made the offer.
This would have likely taken place prior to Celtic confirming the arrival of Mark Lawwell on May 3rd. The Scottish club took him from the City Football Group and appointed Lawwell as their new head of scouting and recruitment.
