The case of Bastian Schweinsteiger has been a bit of an odd one this season.
Clearly not wanted by José Mourinho at Manchester United, the German legend has been slowly pushed out of the club, to the point where the club wrote off his transfer fee down as a loss in their finances.
The player, who said his time at United would probably be his last in Europe, clearly hinted he might end up going elsewhere for one last challenge, and the MLS in the United States is a clear favourite to welcome him.
So much so, in fact, that the league’s commissioner has made his interest of bringing in Bastian Schweinsteiger to America public.
Speaking to Eurosport in Germany, Don Garber said: “Should Schweinsteiger choose to continue his great career, we would appreciate it if he thought about the MLS. Bastian can be a leader for the many young talents.”
The 58-year-old then went on to describe the midfielder as ‘one of the greatest players of our time’.
If Bastian Schweinsteiger leaves Manchester United before the end of his contract (June 2018), which is extremely likely, it’ll be interesting to see how it all gets handled.
Will the Premier League club ask for a fee, or will they just be happy to let him go for nothing?
