Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira was presented today by Fiorentina, who by the end of the summer window, managed to sign the 25-year-old on a season-long loan spell.
The Uruguay international had just returned to the Gunners following an year spent at Atletico Madrid, and it never really seemed like he’d have another chance to prove himself at the Emirates Stadium.
That’s why Torreira got linked to several clubs during the window, and according to the player himself, he indeed had other offers besides Fiorentina’s.
“I wanted to go back to Italy, where I felt good. There were other offers, but what convinced me was Pradè, and I believed in him and in Fiorentina,” said Torreira (via Calcio Mercato).
He also confirmed that it’s been a long time since La Viola starting being interested in signing him.
“For me the most important thing is to play. It’s true that we have been talking about Fiorentina for many years, I want to make the most of this experience now that I’m here.”
Torreira joined Arsenal on a €28.5m move from Sampdoria back in 2018. He made 89 appearances in the two seasons he stayed at the club.
Then loaned to Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2020, things didn’t work great for him in the Spanish capital, as despite his 26 appearances, he spent most of the time on the bench.
Now a new chance arises for him in Italy.
