Vinicius Jr signed for Real Madrid in 2018 from Flamengo, and at the time it didn’t feel like there was an almighty fight for his signing.

Los Blancos had agreed a deal over a year earlier, in May 2017, with Vinicius only able to move when he turned 18-years-of-age in July 2018.

According to Gerard Pique, a deal had been agreed with Barcelona, but Real Madrid swooped in to snatch the player from the Blaugrana’s clutches, by offering a much higher salary.

The Barcelona defender has once again been speaking to Ibai Llanos, a hugely famous Twitch personality in Spain. Pique has done this regularly in recent months, with the fame of the pair helping each other their profiles.

Speaking about various topics, and quoted by AS, when it came to Vinicius and his move to Real Madrid, the Barcelona player claimed the Brazilian was “offered double” to turn down a move to the Camp Nou.

Pique told Llanos: “Vinicius was very talented. Do you know that he was about to come to Barca? No, Vinicius was offered double. I spoke with him personally before going to Madrid and he acknowledged with me that it was made with Barca. It was done. I don’t remember how it was. I was to receive him in the dressing room. It was already done. Madrid arrived at the last second and offered everything.”

How that would fit in with the timeline isn’t clear, and there are likely people who would question the claims from the Barcelona player.
