Rui Patricio to AS Roma is a potential transfer which has been dragging on for over a month now.
When it was announced Jose Mourinho would be taking over at the Serie A club, attention soon turned to transfer targets. With Roma thought to need a new goalkeeper, Gestifute links worked their way through to the obvious target of Rui Patricio.
A move for the Wolves stopper, who has just a year left on his contract with the Premier League club, was reported strongly, and it seemed a matter of time before, at least for the Italian media, until the move was official.
There’s repeatedly been talk of personal terms being agreed and Patricio wanting the move. That may well be true, but Roma still need to pay a reasonable transfer fee, and Mourinho’s Jorge Mendes links surely can’t change that too much.
Il Romanista report Wolves are asking for around £10m, which they put at €11m. Roma’s biggest offer so far hasn’t exceeded €6m, which seems a derisory sum for the 33-year-old.
The Roma websites states the low offer is likely partly to buy the Italian club time as they search for other, younger, options. Should that quest fail, they’ll offer more to Wolves.
Such game playing probably isn’t what Patricio would like to happen, and there’s a chance this expected transfer could collapse.
