Konstantinos Manolas’ agent has reportedly revealed that Arsenal made an attempt to sign the AS Roma defender during the last summer window.
Speaking to Greek radio station Sport FM this week (via Calcio Mercato), the representative talked about the player’s situation at the Serie A side and the interest from big European clubs.
“A transfer in January? This is nothing more than the news given by the press, which is enough and maybe too much,” said the agent. But he can’t rule things out for the next window: “I can’t take it for sure, but probably in the summer there will be something. But in general in football it’s difficult to make predictions.”
Specifically on Arsenal interest, Calciomercato quote the agent as saying: “In the summer, Roma turned down an offer of €40m from Arsenal. The Gunners were interested but the demands of Roma went far beyond the intentions of the English.”
Arsenal bought Shkodran Mustafi during the summer transfer window, so it’s conceivable Arsene Wenger was interested in others too.
Earlier today, the agent has also spoken to Tutto Mercato Web, and ended up refusing to comment on possible interest from Chelsea.
It’s worth noting that Calciomercato’s interpretation of his comments may well have been twisted to add some drama. They did that at the weekend by completing misquoting Torino officials over an Arsenal offer for Andrea Belotti.
