Atletico Madrid have reportedly submitted an offer for Diego Costa. Marca says the Chelsea striker is the Colchoneros’ number one target for the summer, and now this interest has become official.
According to the newspaper, the offer would be between €50m and €60m, and it’s Diego Simeone’s desire to reunite with his old striker for the next season.
But Costa is not Atletico’s only option. The story says the club have made bids of the same value for Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and for Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain.
Diego Costa had an average Premier League season for Chelsea, as he scored 12 goals and couldn’t repeat his debut year, when he reached the 20 mark. Injuries played a part, as did the general implosion of the championship winning team, and more would be expected next season.
The 28-year-old’s desire to go back to Atletico has been reported in Spain for months, and with such a decent offer, it may well tempt Chelsea into considering a sale.
Chelsea signed Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid in 2014 for £28.5m, and in all honesty it would be a surprise if Atletico, known for making profits on transfers, were prepared to part with up to €60m.
But then, Atletico would find it very hard to say no to Diego Simeone.
