Djurgårdens IF midfielder Besard Sabovic has told the Swedish media West Bromwich Albion tried to sign him during the last transfer window.
Following the departure of Okay Yokuşlu to Trabzonspor, the North Macedonia international was linked with a move to the Hawthorns.
Speaking to Fotbollskanalen about his future, Sabovic revealed it was no secret that West Brom were interested him this summer. Despite the links with the Championship side, the 24-year-old said his only focus at the moment is with Djurgårdens IF.
“It’s no secret that West Bromwich were interested in this summer. Of course, it was fun that there was interest, and it would have been a fun step. But I’m fully focused on staying in Djurgården as long as I have my contract, and then I’ll do everything I can in these last games to get as high up in the table as possible,” said the player.
During the last window we covered reports from Sweden that West Brom had submitted an offer for Sabovic, but his club weren’t prepared to sell him halfway through the Allsvenskan season.
The defensive midfielder has started 13 league games for his club this season and has three assists. He’s represented North Macedonian on three occasions since making his debut in 2019.
His contract expires in at the end of December and his situation has alerted several European clubs.
