Signing for AS Monaco in January of this year, Vanderson actually came very close to signing for Brentford.
The Bees were looking to get the player from Grêmio and bring him directly to the Premier League, and it looked like Thomas Frank’s side had won the race, only for the principality side to swoop in and snatch him from under their nose.
Brentford have been fine without the Brazilian since, while the player has developed nicely in France, where he has already received a lot of praise.
He was featured in an interview with Onze Mondial this month, where he was asked about his near transfer to the Brentford Community Stadium.
Asked if playing in the Premier League was a dream of his, taking into account he was close to moving to Brentford, he said: “Yes, it’s an objective for everyone who wants to play at the highest level. It’s a great league, like Ligue 1, but I first want to play here and play in the Champions League.”
That is something the Bees cannot offer him for the time being, and could be some way off doing so.
If he does then decide to move on from Monaco and sets his sights on our shores to continue his career, Brentford might be priced out of a move, as the Ligue 1 club never late their players go for cheap.
Just look at Aurélien Tchouaméni and his €100m move to Real Madrid.
