Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espírito Santo has been interviewed by ESPN Brasil this week.
The Portuguese boss, who after taking Wolves to the Premier League now has them in the seventh position, has talked a about his arrival at the club and the influence of Jorge Mendes in the move.
“He is my friend. A person I admire a lot. He’s the best agent in the world,” Nuno Espírito Santo told João Castelo Branco, from ESPN Brasil.
“He was the person who at the time decided with me, after much conversation, that the best step would be to come, to start working at Wolves. The project, as it was presented in an exciting way, was a challenge, a great challenge.”
Regarding the competition against clubs who spend a lot more money than Wolves, Nuno claims that’s something only the club’s board must be concerned with.
“We think it’s a very difficult competitive space. Very difficult. But we are inserted in it. And what I believe is that the better we are prepared to compete, the better results we will have. Therefore, ambition of the club. And if you ask me my ambition, it’s the next training, the next game, then the next training, day by day, day by day.”
Asked about what his goals as a manager, the 45-year-old Wolves boss has a very simple answer: “Improve players. Improve. Make the player better. Because we know that if the player is better, the team will be better. So improve the player. Look at the player, keep him in the middle of us, and see at all points what we can make him better.”
