Towards the end of April, we covered a report from Spain which explained Aaron Martin would likely be sold by Espanyol this summer to help balance the Barcelona club’s books.
This was of interest to Everton because it had earlier been reported the Toffees failed with a €20m offer during the winter transfer window. Espanyol had seriously considered selling the fullback, but in the end they decided a winter move wasn’t the best idea, and Aaron hadn’t been pushing for a move anyway.
If the claim of an Everton offer was correct, or even some level of interest, then it sounded like time to act, with an agent working to build a sale from Espanyol.
Now there’s a further nudge for Steve Walsh.
Record report Benfica are interested, and that’s good and bad news for Everton. The Lisbon club have a great record of buying players and then selling for a really good profit, so it’s a tick for Aaron that there’s interest.
Aaron is a left footer who is an out and out left back, so it’s very much dependent on how Everton see their summer going. But if they want the player then it’s probably a good time to start moving.
Everton interest is also noted by Record.
That €20m offer would stand a better chance of being accepted now.
