Following the heavy rumours about a departure from Manchester United this summer, Cristiano Ronaldo still couldn’t find his good form for the club this season.
With seven appearances and no goals scored, the forward has even been struggling to convince manager Erik ten Hag that he deserves a starting place in the team in the Premier League.
So as Portugal manager Fernando Santos today made the call-up for the national team’s upcoming matches, the country’s biggest legend was obviously named, and he had a few questions to answer regarding his current form.
The coach claimed to be calm regarding Cristiano Ronaldo’s situation at Manchester United, saying he’s been in contact to check on him.
“Am I worried about the situation of Cristiano Ronaldo? No. I’ve followed and he will play today. He will start. I pay attention to him and to all the players. I want to know if they will play and what is happening. No one doubts that Ronaldo will continue to be important for the National Team,” said Fernando Santos (via A Bola).
Cristiano Ronaldo’s last start for Manchester United in the Premier League had been in the 4-0 defeat to Brentford in mid-August.
In the Red Devils’ four straight wins in the competition, he started all those matches on the bench.
The 37-year-old was given a new chance to start in the Europa League clash against Real Sociedad last week, with ten Hag’s side losing 1-0 at Old Trafford.
Now it seems there’s a new opportunity for him tonight.
