Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has included Tottenham Hotspur’s Lucas Bergvall in his squad for this international break.

The squad have been training in Marbella this week and the 19-year-old was absent for Wednesday’s session.

On Thursday, Jon Dahl Tomasson stated the Tottenham player “has a cold” and is doubtful for the friendly against Luxembourg on Saturday.

The Swedish football association, via their official website, have confirmed the midfielder will miss tomorrow’s clash. They add Bergvall will be travelling back to Stockholm instead of travelling with the rest of the squad to Luxembourg.

Sweden have also confirmed Jon Dahl Tomasson will replace the Spurs man with Swansea City’s Melker Widell, who is currently on loan at AaB. He will join the squad on Friday.

Sweden will host Northern Ireland in another friendly fixture on Tuesday. The national team doctor, Jonas Werner, explained it’s unclear whether the young midfielder can recover on time for the next tie.

“Lucas is not available to play on Saturday. He will go to Sweden to recover, and we will monitor developments. He may be able to rejoin the team before the match against Northern Ireland,” he said.

Ange Postecoglou had to deal with injuries to several players this season. The manager and the north London club would be keeping a close watch on Bergvall’s situation.
