Bruma is top scorer for PSV so far this season, which De Telegraaf report is taking everyone by surprise.
The Dutch newspaper say it’s come ‘out of nowhere’ and anyone who had predicted such a situation for the 27-year-old this season would have been laughed at.
However, it appears Marcel Brands saw it all coming quite a while ago. According to De Telegraaf, the Everton director had tried to sign the player for PSV back in 2017.
Brands came close to succeeding but was beaten in the end by RB Leipzig. Things didn’t go to plan in Germany, and PSV were able to fulfil Brands’ plan, who had since left for Everton, in summer 2019.
Again, it didn’t go to plan and Bruma was sent on loan to Olympiacos, but now back at his parent club he’s having a real impact.
A flexible attacker, the right-footer has played on the left, right and through the middle this season. In 11 Eredivisie games he’s scored five goals and added an assist, with PSV currently level on points with Ajax, although the Amsterdam side have a better goal difference.
With three goals in his last two matches, Bruma is getting more attention.
Everton were linked in 2016, and at various times, although a move has never looked close.
He has a contract lasting until 2023, and could be a cheap option for Everton to keep an eye on.
