For Newcastle United fans who are keeping track of Yankuba Minteh’s season at Feyenoord, you will be aware that he scored two goals against Almere City at the weekend.

The Magpies loanee actually came off the bench for the final 29 minutes of the game with the match tied 0-0, and he provided the perfect injection of pace and skill his team needed.

One of his goals looked unintentional, as he appeared to cross the ball only for it to go in, but in his post match interview, he was adamant that he meant it, relayed by Voetbalzone.

He said: “No it was a deliberate shot on goal. The keeper came out a bit and was therefore positioned far in front of his goal. I wanted to chip him in the far corner.”

Describing it as the ‘best goal’ he had scored in his life, the Gambia international was also reminded that he hadn’t found the back of the net in the Eredivisie since September.

The Newcastle loanee said: “It was a difficult period that I tried to get out of. I was also injured for a while. Now I’m back and I want to keep scoring.”

Newcastle will be keeping a close eye on the forward, whom they bought last summer and immediately loaned to the Eredivisie side for him to get the minutes he wasn’t ready for under Eddie Howe this season.

To date, the 19-year-old has scored six goals and assisted another three in 25 appearances for the Dutch side.
