Today, it’s been widely reported both in Peru as in England that Manchester City completed the deal for Allianza Lima youngster Kluverth Aguillar.

The teenager is staying in his home country until 2021, when he turns 18 years of age and finally becomes able to move to the Premier League side.

Peruvian outlet Libero managed to make a good interview with Allianza Lima official Jaime Duarte, who’s responsible for the youth levels.

He’s the one who gets all the credit for having found Kluiverh for Allianza Lima, and talked a little about the work they do to get the best talents in the country.

“We didn’t see Kluiverth in the U17 South American. We at the academy have known all the players from a very young age and we knew him since 2015 because I was struck by how he played at the Regattas,” Jaime Duarte told Libero.

“He’s the first player in the history of Peruvian football to be captured by a team of the magnitude and prestige of City, so the explosion and the work of recruiting Alianza doesn’t go unnoticed, of course, but we have very good players from Tumbes, Tacna, Cajamarca, Trujillo, Cusco, Chimbote, Huaral, Ica, Pisco, Chincha. At Alianza Lima we do a training job, some succeed and others dissolve.”

Regarding the Manchester City move, Jaime Duarte didn’t mind revealing many details of the operation, pointing out which club officials have travelled to Peru to see the player.

“He signs with us the first week of February 2019 and the South American (youth tournament) takes place in March. It was impressive because in the preferred seats of the San Marcos stadium there was a sea of scouts from around the world. Manchester City have a headquarters in Brazil and there’s a manager who manages all of South America, he had come to Lima and told one of the strongest, I think Guardiola’s right arm, to take a plane to Peru to see a 15-year-old player who was the shortest of all.

“And as it happens with all scouts, they always look at Brazilian, Argentine, Uruguayan wingers, but Kluiverth was described as the best South American winger and here comes the approach with his agent, since then he was there. At the end of January everything was closed after passing medical examinations and he had to go to England in February with all the papers ready, now he’s studying English.”

The Peruvian media has been covering this story very closely for a while now. Back in June 2019, a local reporter said he was told by a Benfica coach that Kluiverth Aguillar was moving to Manchester City.

Then since November, several outlets started reporting the negotiations.
