Nottingham Forest are working to sign FSV Mainz 05’s Moussa Niakhaté this summer.

The interest from the newly promoted Premier League side in the 26-year-old was leaked a few days ago and the club seem to have taken steps to secure his services.

That’s according to Bild, who explain Steven Cooper’s side already made an offer to land the centre-back a few days ago. The details of the proposal are not specified in the report, but it is said to be worth less than €10m.

Nottingham Forest’s offer for the Frenchman hasn’t pleased the Bundesliga side. It’s claimed the proposal was ‘so low’ the Mainz leaders ‘do not even want to deal’ with the English club.

The defender has 12 months left on his current deal and Mainz are expecting to get at least €15m for him. The German side are of the belief they can get this fee considering there is still time left in the transfer window.

Mainz chief Christian Heidel is in no hurry to offload Niakhaté, who is open to making a switch to Nottingham Forest. What’s certain is the player is definitely expected to join the first preseason training session on Tuesday.
