Earlier on Thursday, we covered a report from RMC Sport claiming that following the agreement between Nottingham Forest and Wolves for Morgan Gibbs-White, Houssem Aouar was no longer a priority for Steve Cooper’s side.
That makes sense, since the two can play as attacking midfielders, but there appears to be more to it than that.
The report comes from Foot Mercato in France, who make it clear talks between Lyon and Nottingham Forest for Aouar ‘have come to a stop’, with the whole deal potentially ‘falling through’.
This is reportedly because the Tricky Trees ‘didn’t appreciate’ the way in which the Ligue 1 side’s director of football, Vincent Ponsot, conducted talks.
Following a first offer from Nottingham Forest being rejected, at which point Lyon made their demands clear, the newly promoted club made their improved bid, meeting what had been asked, only for that to also be refused.
That’s when Lyon claimed their valuation and demands had ‘evolved’.
Not exactly the best way to conduct business, which is why Nottingham Forest, clearly not wanting to waste time, moved on from Aouar, who was one of their priorities.
