We may just stand a few hours from the transfer deadline, but Nottingham Forest are still trying to do some business.

According to De Telegraaf in the Netherlands, the Reds are engaged in negotiations with Ajax for the transfer of Chuba Akpom.

Journalist Mike Verweij claims that Nottingham Forest opened talks with a €15m bid, and the Eredivisie giants ‘quickly’ came up with a €17m counteroffer.

The negotiations are for a loan with a potential mandatory buying clause. It’s said the Tricky Trees first wanted the clause to depend on a certain number of matches, and Ajax are now trying to ‘significantly’ reduce that request, also including an ‘obligation’ in case of relegation to the Championship.

That’s said to be unacceptable for Nottingham Forest, and it sounds like the clubs are still talking about it.

We must say we’ve seen many buying clauses depending on promotion to the top flight, now forcing a club to make a big investment after a relegation sounds a little unusual. We’ll see how Nottingham Forest manage to overturn that counter-offer.
