Nottingham Forest have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ to sign midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say Nottingham Forest have turned their attention to the former Crystal Palace man after failing to sign Idrissa Gana Gueye.

According to their information, Steve Cooper’s side have made Kouyate ‘a priority’ as they look to further reinforce their squad this summer.

He could now become their 13th signing of the summer after the two parties reached an agreement on Friday evening.

Kouyate is set to sign a two-year deal with the Tricky Trees and will arrive on a free transfer after being released by Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

The 32-year-old has been looking for a new club since then and Nottingham Forest were first linked with a move last week.

It seems they’ve now advanced their interest significantly, having given up on the idea of signing Gueye from Paris Saint Germain as he instead continues to be heavily linked with a return to former club Everton.
