On Wednesday, Portuguese newspaper Record covered Nottingham Forest’s interest in Benfica midfielder Florentino Luís, even though that story didn’t have many details about the chase.
It turns out that the newspaper features a fresh story on the 24-year-old’s future today, this time claiming the Eagles have already received an offer for his sale.
Record writes the bid was worth €30m and arrived from an unnamed English club. Even though that amount was supposed to be the minimum for Benfica to open talks, the Lisbon side already turned it down, knowing that Premier League sides can put more money on the table in the coming months.
The newspaper recalls that Nottingham Forest are one of the ‘most interested’ clubs, so there’s a good chance the offer could be coming from them, even though Everton are also named as a competitor.
Benfica are reportedly fine with the idea of selling Florentino this summer, especially because the main plan is to keep his midfield partner João Neves in the squad.
Record claims that Nottingham Forest’s interest in the player is related to their search for reinforcements that result in more ‘stability’ in the Premier League next season.
Despite the claims that €30m was turned down, that may be a negotiating tactic because such a figure looks like a good deal. To be clear, if Florentino Luis is still there in August and Benfica are offered the same sum then it’s very likely they’d accept.
