Nottingham Forest signed Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina in the summer and he’s already the centre of attention.
The Serbian has become a key part of the Forest backline, showing that he is still very much at his best after enduring some inconsistent seasons at Fiorentina.
As the Tricky Trees continue to witness Milenkovic’s revival, there is now regret from some in Italy that the centre-back was sold in the summer.
ViolaNews note that many La Viola fans now believe the 27-year-old should never have been sold, as the club has struggled to replace Milenkovic. Marin Pongracic has not lived up to expectations, having arrived from Lecce for a similar fee to what Fiorentina earned from the Serbia international’s sale.
They believe that Milenkovic is someone that Nottingham Forest won’t sell for less than €50m and he is ‘surprising everyone’ in England.
The comparison with Pongracic doesn’t hold up, with the Croatian having been inferior to 19-year-old Pietro Comuzzo. The feeling is that Fiorentina could have either kept Milenkovic or could have used the money from his sale in a better way.
Nuno Espirito Santo would certainly hope that things continue this way and the summer signing keeps his revival going.
