If you were here during the end of the January transfer window, you’ll know all about Harry Toffolo’s failed move from Nottingham Forest to Anderlecht.
The left-back had appeared set to join the Belgian side at the end of the window, having fallen out of favour under Steve Cooper, who preferred Renan Lodi.
Anderlecht were in desperate need of a left-back and a deal appeared to have been tied up, with Nottingham Forest seemingly happy to let him go.
Fast forward to the 31st and that had changed dramatically, with it reported that the deal had been blocked, something Anderlecht chief Jesper Friedberg later confirmed.
That was followed by his manager, Brian Riemer, hitting out at Nottingham Forest over how they had handled the whole affair and labelling them “extremely unprofessional”.
Quite why the deal had been cancelled last minute wasn’t revealed, other than claims Forest needed cover for Lodi, who had picked up an injury, and didn’t want to be left short.
Well, Voetbal Nieuws cover the situation today, stating that Toffolo ‘almost belonged’ to Anderlecht in January before the last minute cancellation.
According to their sources this was down to meddling by intermediaries and the move was ‘thwarted by some agents’, leading Toffolo to be ‘suddenly recalled’ at the last moment by Nottingham Forest.
Quite what this agent meddling was isn’t mentioned but it was seemingly enough to bring the whole deal crashing down at the death.
That’s something Anderlecht aren’t particularly happy about given Toffolo has only managed 17 minutes of football this month, spending the rest of it out of the squad or sat on the bench when he could have been a regular in Belgium.
