After last season’s vast spending on the summer transfer market, Nottingham Forest have been a bit more reserved, at least to date, this time around.
In fact, according to L’Equipe, the Tricky Trees are eyeing up a free transfer, with a defender in mind.
Amid reports that Nottingham Forest could make a move for Besiktas’ Romain Saïss, a new name has emerged, and that’s Strasbourg’s Alexander Djiku.
The centre-back has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past, but with his contract expiring in three days, now is the best opportunity for him to get a transfer without his club interfering.
Strasbourg, down their end, would like to keep the Ghana international around, but will find it difficult thanks to the competition provided by Nottingham Forest.
Steve Cooper’s side have ‘already sent him a proposal’, but the Ligue 1 side have not given up hope, using fresh money following the deal with BlueCo (Chelsea) to try and convince him to stay.
We’ll have to wait and see what comes of this, but if Nottingham Forest really want him and he is open to a new adventure, with Lille, Besiktas and Mainz 05 also keen, Strasbourg might have to wave goodbye to one of their rocks this summer.
