Nottingham Forest have bolstered their strike-force by signing two strikers in this calendar year.

After taking Sam Surridge from Stoke City in January, Forest completed a deal for Taiwo Awoniyi last month.

Steve Cooper’s side want to bring in another player in the same position, if a report coming out of Portugal is to be believed.

Record state the newly promoted Premier League side ‘bet on’ Sporting’s Islam Slimani.

The Algeria international is aware of English football from his time at Leicester City, between 2016 and 2021. He struggled at the King Power Stadium, which saw the Foxes loan him out to Newcastle United, Fenerbahçe and AS Monaco.

Record now claim the 34-year-old could return to the Premier League, specifically to Nottingham Forest. He isn’t included in Ruben Amorim’s plans at Sporting and was in talks with Qatari side Al Gharafa, but their project didn’t please the player.

It’s said Cooper wants to sign another attacker, after securing Awoniyi, and Slimani is top of his list. It is now necessary to formalise the proposal.

The attacker is on the front page of today’s Record, with ‘Nottingham Forest advance for Slimani’ written in bold.
