Back in February, Marca put forward the possibility of Manchester City’s Nolito returning to his former club Celta Vigo, and it appears the idea has gained some momentum in Spain, with the Spanish club pretty much admitting they would like to see it happen.

In a press conference, relayed by Cadena Ser, the La Liga club’s director of football Felipe Miñambres admitted bringing the Spain international back from the Etihad is something the club have thought about, explaining that ‘nothing is impossible’.

The Manchester City forward, who was brought to the club by Pep Guardiola in the summer for £15.3m after a great season in Spain, has barely featured in recent weeks despite a strong start, only playing nine minutes of league football from a possible 900 over the past 10 games.

Of course, for such a transfer to happen, Nolito would have to make a few compromises, which Miñambres touched upon.

He said: “There will need to be conditions that depend more on Nolito than us financially, but it is very early to look at this situation as the life of a footballer has many ups and downs, and anything can happen between now and the end of the season”.

As Cadena SER point out, Nolito’s return wouldn’t be the first time a former player took a pay cut to return to the club, as Iago Aspas did just that following spells at Liverpool and Sevila in 2015.

Nolito has made 27 appearances for Manchester City this season, scoring six goals and picking up five assists along the way.
