This morning, a few reports suggested Sevilla defender Jules Kounde could be on his way to Chelsea, after progress in the transfer saga.

With Kourt Zouma looking to leave for West Ham United, his replacement seemed to come from Spain, with claims that Kounde was even saying goodbye to the La Liga side, as Chelsea would now ‘activate all machinery’ to get the move done.

However, Sevilla claim they haven’t received a bid for the 22-year-old yet.

The statement was made by club president José Castro. He spoke to the local media following the Champions League draw, and when asked about the defender, the official claimed there are so far no offers for him to leave the club this summer.

“At the moment Kounde is a Sevilla player. What we have done this year is to reinforce, we’ve signed six footballers. We want to have a powerful team,” said Castro (via Estadio Deportivo).

“We always study the offers that may come. But the days are running out, for now there is nothing”.

Today, besides claims from ABC Sevilla saying the deal was close to being done, even Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio came up with fresh claims saying Kounde is nearing Chelsea in a €50m move. Now unless Castro isn’t being straight, it seems Chelsea are still to make a final effort for the signing.
