Manchester United’s interest in Atalanta defender Cristian Romero is a rumour which has been reported by a few Italian outlets for the past couple of months, and each story considers the chase to be at a specific stage.
Just last week, Eco Di Bergamo claimed the Red Devils had made a €45m offer for the player, and that would be nearly impossible for the Serie A side to turn down.
However, we also see journalists saying this pursuit has just begun. This is the case of Gianluigi Longari, who today reports that Manchester United are ‘considering the profile’ of the Argentine player for now.
It’s said there are ‘contacts’ between the clubs, but there’s ‘nothing closed for now’, especially because there are other sides who are interested in the 24-year-old.
Despite claiming Romero is ‘highly rated’, Longari doesn’t say how much he would cost the Red Devils.
Romero officially belongs to Juventus and is having a loan spell at Atalanta until 2022.
The Italian media, however, is sure that the Bergamo side are anticipating the buying option and signing him in a €16m permanent deal this summer. Their plan would be to make an immediate profit by selling him for a lot more.
