Don’t tell the Danish sport media, it’ll send them into a frenzy, but El Confidencial, who have been pretty good on Real Madrid transfers down the years, have a Christian Eriksen claim on Tuesday which is different from the norm.
Usually when the Madrid media covers the Tottenham player, which isn’t as often as one may expect, the story tends to go like this: Yes, he’s a very good footballer, and his contract situation makes him attractive from a cost perspective… But Daniel Levy is very scary, so let’s move on.
It’s unclear whether El Confidencial have simply had a sudden burst of optimism, but in an article talking about Real Madrid interest in several players, they state: ‘Florentino has ended up giving up (trying to decide the transfers himself) and the coach has demanded two signings for midfield: one of a footballer who generates game, and that will be, if nothing changes, the Dane Christian Eriksen, who has already rejected several offers of renewal of the Tottenham, and the other reinforcement is that of a defensive muscle player to shield the midfield.’
So, if we take that as being spot on, at least from a Real Madrid perspective, what does it really mean? It’s not entirely clear whether they’re claiming the Tottenham man will be the one demanded, or if they’re going further and stating he’ll be the one to arrive.
The latter would be a big jump from previous claims.
