Former Belgium goalkeeper Geert De Vlieger has warned Leicester City they will lose Youri Tielemans at some point, even if they fight off interest in him this summer.

Tielemans has established himself as one of the stars of the show at Leicester since arriving at the club from Monaco in January 2019.

His deal at the club runs until 2023, but they have been working hard to extend his contract for the last few months.

It looked inevitable that would happen, but Leicester’s failure to qualify for the Champions League has thrown something of a spanner in the works.

It’s felt that failure has changed Tielemans thinking somewhat, and the sharks are already circling, with a report in Belgium today stating that Liverpool are eyeing him as a potential replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.

Whether a move to Anfield or any other big club in Europe for that matter happens this summer remains to be seen, but De Vlieger has warned Leicester it will happen at some regardless.

“Tielemans is going to leave Leicester City anyway,” he told Play Sports, relayed by Voetbal Nieuws.

“If not this year, then next year. Leicester should hope that he stays another year, but Youri is now so far that he is ready for an absolute top club.”
