Over the past 24 hours, a lot has happened in the Manchester City – Dusan Vlahovic – Fiorentina world.
The Premier League champions appeared out of nowhere in the race for the Serbian, as they looked for Harry Kane alternatives, and talk of an €80m bid being on its way started doing the rounds.
That continued on Thursday, with multiple outlets suggesting Pep Guardiola’s side could really walk away with the striker by the end of the transfer window, but Rocco Commisso, the Serie A side’s owner, is trying to set matters straight.
Already saying on Wednesday that he felt it would take around €100m to convince him to let his star player go, the businessman has come out again on Thursday, this time speaking to Tgr Rai-Toscana, relayed by Corriere dello Sport, to downplay a potential Vlahovic departure.
He said: “Vlahovic has never been put up for sale by Fiorentina. What is happening is that everyone is moving, the agents who want to make more money, as well as some teams, since we are at the end of the transfer market. It’s true that there is news concerning him, but the right offer has not yet arrived, and even if it does, I don’t think Vlahovic will go away.
“We offered him a very expensive contract, the most expensive ever made in the history of the club, and the boy agrees. There is a lot of money, and I’m happy for him, but the contract has to be extended and renewed. Later, if the boy is going to go away, we can talk about it, but not this year”.
It seems Commisso is trying, once and for all, to shut down rumours surrounding his star striker, attempting to distance himself from the Manchester City story in the process.
Whether this works and Vlahovic does indeed renew remains to be seen, but, for the time being, we can only take his word for it, and it appears that the Serbia international is on the verge of putting pen to paper on a new Fiorentina contract.
