On Wednesday afternoon, reports from Brazil claimed that Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira is on a shortlist that Leeds United have of potential replacements for Marcelo Bielsa.
Even though the Whites would like to keep the manager, the lack of signs that he’d renew his contract has reportedly made them look for a couple of other names who could take his position in the summer.
The news of course received big coverage in Brazil, where Ferreira has just won his second consecutive Copa Libertadores for Palmeiras and also has his future in doubt, as he hasn’t confirmed if he’ll stay at the club or not.
So Neto, probably the most famous pundit in the country, yesterday said that the coach isn’t staying, especially now with this interest from the Premier League.
Ferreira’s family still lives in Portugal, and even though Palmeiras’ new president Leila Pereira is also their sponsor and could ‘offer him a plane’ so his wife and children can travel more frequently, it’s believed ‘he does not stay’ at the club.
Neto praises journalist Bruno Andrade, who broke the news, and makes it very clear that Leeds United’s interest in Abel Ferreira would depend on Marcelo Bielsa’s on his future.
Still, with Brazilian TV at its best, the director still put different information on the screen, saying “Abel Ferreira has millionaire offer from Leeds United and could leave the Verdão”.
To be clear, the report didn’t back that up.
