Huddersfiled Town confirmed to have completed the signing of Carel Eiting on the last day of the January transfer window.

The midfielder spent the 2020/21 season on loan with the Championship side from Ajax and was a regular for the Terriers, whenever he was eligible for selection. He managed three goals and three assists from 23 league games for the English club.

Last summer, Ajax let the 23-year-old to join Genk on a permanent deal and he signed a four-year deal with them. The Dutchman made 19 appearances in all competitions, managing only one assist in the process.

Genk were eliminated from the Europa League after finishing fourth in their group and were also knocked out of the domestic cup competition. Therefore, the Jupiler Pro League side had to trim down the squad for the second half of the season.

The Belgium club let Eiting, Bastien Toma and Iké Ugbo move elsewhere in January. The latter two were allowed to go out on loan deals, while Genk terminated the ex-Ajax man’s contract. This was confirmed by their chief, Dimitri De Condé.

“We did not have the feeling that Carel could become important to us. Not in the short and not in the long term. He did not have that feeling either and that is why it was decided in mutual consultation to terminate his contract,” De Condé told Het Laatste Nieuws.
