Everton defender Yerry Mina has been labelled a ‘player with a bad foundation’ after being named in Colombia’s squad for the Copa America.
That is the opinion of journalist Carlos Antonio Vélez, who lays into the Everton defender as part of his opinion column on the show Palabras Mayores.
Mina has been a regular for the Toffees this season, with 24 appearances in the Premier League to his name thus far.
He has largely impressed too, with his presence having been sorely missed in the heart of Carlo Ancelotti’s defence when he has been out injured.
His performances have ensured his place in Colombia’s squad for the Copa America this summer, with the Everton man likely to be a key player alongside teammate James Rodriguez.
It seems not everyone is impressed with his inclusion, though, with Vélez sharing his opinion for Planeta Fútbol on Antena 2.
“I have my doubts about Yerry Mina’s call-up,” Colombia.com report him saying.
“Yerry Mina, for example, is a player with a bad foundation, who doesn’t provide any security in defence who is still injured, who was doing very well, but who suddenly dropped in level.
“He has the good fortune to make superb transfers and earn fortunes, nothing comparable to his footballing level; he is not a reliable man, he is not a reliable defender.”
