With Argentina playing in Buenos Aires after their World Cup title, the local media gave hue coverage to that match, which ended up in a 2-0 victory over Panama.

As part of the preparations, outlet TN managed to hold an interview with the mother of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

They spoke about the 30-year-old’s early days, as he moved to England very young, joining Arsenal before he’d get to Aston Villa.

“Many things have to be put aside, but I am very happy for what they have achieved,” said Suzana Martinez.

“I tell all the guys to try it. It is a sacrifice and not everyone can achieve it, but don’t give up and try it.”

With having her son so far away from home, she explained it took some time to get used to the situation.

“We are used to it, I respect his work and I got used to it. It’s not pretty but I got used to it.”

Even though her son is a World Champion and a national hero, she insists nothing has changed in her life, despite how happy she is for him.

“I continue to live my life the same. I relate to the same people, we are very simple people. Very normal.

“I’m very proud of him, but it didn’t change my life.”

AS Argentina beat Panama on Thursday evening, there was a huge party at the Monumental De Nunez stadium to celebrate the World Cup victory. The national team next play Curaçao on Tuesday.

At Aston Villa, Martinez will be back in action on the 4th of April, when Unai Emery’s side take a trip to Leicester City.
