As the Italian coverage of Lazio’s Champions League clash against Celtic continues to be big, Gazzetta Dello Sport now managed to get an interesting point of view on the Hoops’ style of play.
The outlet got to speak to Eugenio Sena, an Italian coach who’s an assistant manager at Livingston FC.
Sena brought his view of how Celtic play, highlighting that Brendan Rodgers’ side don’t have such a physical team as could be first expected by the Italians.
“They attack with many men, so they suffer from negative transitions, and also from opponent aggression because they are not a physical team. The average height is very low, they suffer from aerial duels and second balls,” said Sena.
“Here in Scotland the central defenders are not pressed much, but if you attack them they are forced to play long and they are not tall up front. If Lazio presses high and they are forced to play long, they suffer. And then it’s a young team, even in the central defenders, they can make mistakes due to inexperience, and Immobile can mock them.”
Livingston faced Celtic a couple of weeks ago, and lost at home 3-0.
It turns out that the more we read the Italian media, the more we see that they’re quite confident that Lazio should have no problems beating Celtic.
Earlier today, we covered former Rangers defender Lorenzo Amoruso claiming the Serie A side have a superior team, and just need to be aware of the big atmosphere they will face at Celtic Park. We’ve also seen Mario Balotelli claiming it’s Lazio’s job to win that game, as they’d only lose to Celtic if they mess things up.
