Aston Villa star Jhon Duran has insisted he couldn’t care less about what people think of his personality, as noise from the outside will always exist.
The striker has been speaking to ESPN Colombia about various topics today, including the constant questioning of his personality.
He is currently having the best season of his career to date, with eight goals in 16 games in all competitions for Aston Villa this season despite managing just 580 minutes of action.
He is widely considered one of the rising talents in Europe, with many predicting big things from the 20-year-old given what he’s already doing.
There have been questions about his personality for some time, though, particularly after the summer transfer window in which he appeared determined to force a move away from Aston Villa to West Ham.
That never happened but there have been various moments since, such as a dramatic and angry response to being substituted in the 2-0 win over Bologna.
That led to plenty of criticism and calls for the Aston Villa striker to change his attitude, but Duran insists he couldn’t care less what people have to say about him.
“I’m self-confident, I have always lived like that and I say things to whoever I have to tell, maybe some don’t like it, that’s not my problem,” he said.
“I keep working, the bad streaks and the good ones are part of the game. It’s work, you have to learn to know how to work, behave like another person on the team, whatever the coach decides and when it’s time to participate. The collective leads to the personal.
“I’m still the same. There are people who don’t know me and talk, talking from outside is very easy. I am happy not to change, the achievements and the money are momentary.”
