Liverpool’s anger over Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid is continuing, and they’re now concerned that the situation is repeating itself with Ibrahima Konaté.

That’s according to Marca, who report that Real Madrid are now working to sign Alexander-Arnold before the Club World Cup.

The newspaper explains that a transfer needs to be agreed with Liverpool for that to happen. They have a special transfer window created by FIFA, from June 1st to June 10th, but without an agreement with Liverpool nothing will happen.

The truth is that Liverpool’s management are upset, but not at just what’s happened with the full-back. The decision to go to Real Madrid was Alexander-Arnold’s but there is a feeling at Anfield, particularly among the fanbase, that the move has been planned for some time.

And the feeling they had around Alexander-Arnold is now being felt around Konaté, whose contract is set to expire next summer.

Liverpool are beginning to ‘detect ghosts’ very similar to what they felt a year ago, when Alexander-Arnold began to turn his back on renewal offers being made. They know Konaté is of interest to several clubs, including Real Madrid.

They also know how the Spanish side operate, and their suspicion is that history could repeat itself. Several attempts to renew the French defender have already been made without success.

That’s why talks over a transfer for Alexander-Arnold aren’t working out as it’s now ‘not money, but rather pride’ for the Reds.

Real Madrid don’t want to have any problems with Liverpool, but the fact is that both sides are looking out for their own interests and Liverpool’s feeling that history is repeating itself after the Alexander-Arnold affair isn’t helping matters.
