It didn’t take long, but the story claiming Cristiano Ronaldo had two options at his disposal to leave Manchester United has been quickly put to bed by the Portuguese press.

Earlier on Tuesday, we covered a claim from AS in Spain that Borussia Dortmund and Sporting CP were the two ‘escape routes’ for the Portugal star, who wants to leave Old Trafford this summer.

The former was due to the fact Sébastien Haller is currently undergoing treatment for a testicular tumour, while a nostalgic return to the Liga NOS side was also touted.

However, Record in Portugal did their own snooping around and make it clear ‘Cristiano Ronaldo’s fate will not pass through Borussia Dortmund or Sporting’.

They relay what AS said, but say ‘this is not so’, before reiterating the Manchester United has ‘expressed his intention to leave’ the club this summer as he ‘wants to play the Champions League this season’.

Make of all this what you will, but it seems far more likely that Ronaldo will have to stay put at Manchester United against his will than anyone willing to take on his huge wages.
