Doubt around the future of Dick Advocaat at Fenerbahce has naturally led to doubt around the future of Jeremain Lens at Fenerbahce, and that’s now being featured in the Turkish media.
Earlier on Tuesday we suggested that Lens may not be so keen to remain at Fenerbahce, and they not so keen to keep the Sunderland owned player, if Advocaat leaves the club. Lens and Advocaat have times been something of a double act, with the Dutch working with his compatriot at PSV, AZ and Sunderland.
Then both left Sunderland and rocked up at Fenerbahce, and they could both be leaving again. Sabah report that Advocaat has, regardless of his own future, given the Turkish club a clear message: Sign Lens and if you fail, make sure you get someone just as good, because Fenerbahce will need it.
Lens leaving Sunderland for Fenerbahce permanently looked nailed on at one point, but worries over price and FFP, and Sunderland making it clear they’ll stand firm on value, have shaken things up. Advocaat leaving would rock it all a little more.
The Sunderland owned player may also be considering his future in Turkey generally. Even Tuesday’s sport sections carry accusations about fascists in the Netherlands, and it’s not the calmest situation.
