If there’s one thing that every Everton fan can agree on, it’s that Lucas Digne is a hugely underrated player.
The French full-back has been nothing short of sensation at Goodison Park since arriving from Barcelona in 2018, having been signed as the replacement for Leighton Baines in the position.
He has subsequently filled his shoes and then some, with a tally of 19 assists and five goals in 101 games impressive fare for a full-back playing in a team who have not been at the top of their game during his two years there.
A quick look at the numbers show Digne to be one of the more creative players in the Premier League, never mind Europe, yet recognition for this fact has been hard to come by.
This is something that regularly aggravates those who watch him regularly for Everton, and in that regard, it seems they have an ally in France manager Didier Deschamps.
“In that role (left-back), there is a lot of competition; no player will be favoured just for playing in a club with great media attention,” Tuttomercatoweb report him saying at a press conference yesterday.
“It would not be fair to penalise Lucas Digne, who is doing great things with us and with his club, for this reason.
“Lucas plays for Everton today, so not really in the spotlight, and many underestimate him. It’s not fair; I’m very sorry for that.”
