Everton were all but set to announce the arrival of Arnaut Danjuma on Tuesday before a late twist in the saga saw the Villarreal player favour a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
This saw the Toffees shift their focus to Marseille’s Bamba Dieng, who had set his sights on joining FC Lorient.
On Tuesday, Foot Mercato reported Everton are ‘ready to do anything’ to sign the 22-year-old and it was also stated he favours a move to the Premier League compared than staying in France.
Foot Mercato’s claim about the Senegal international favouring a move to the Merseyside club has been dismissed by L’Equipe and RMC Sport.
L’Equipe state the Marseille player is coveted by Everton. The obstacle for the English club is that their project is ‘uncertain’ as they are currently 19th in the table and sacked Frank Lampard on Monday.
Over at RMC Sport, they explain the attacker has received several requests from England, where Everton are very interested in signing him. The prospect of playing for the Premier League side was ‘not the most exciting’ because of their current league position.
Dieng has now said yes to the Ligue 1 side and is expected to arrive in Lorient to carry out medical tests.
