Sheffield United star Sander Berge has insinuated there was no concrete interest from Chelsea or Liverpool this summer, despite reports to the contrary.
The midfielder was heavily linked with a move away from Bramall Lane all summer after they failed to secure promotion last season.
He is undoubtedly one of the bigger names and most saleable assets in the United squad, and his performances in both the Premier League and the Championship have not gone unnoticed.
Clubs inside the top six and outside of it are believed to be keen on his signature, and he was subsequently linked with a return to the topflight in this window.
Ultimately that never happened but surprise links to both Chelsea and Liverpool emerged, with both clubs on the hunt for a midfield reinforcement.
It seems those links may have been wide of the mark, though, with the player insisting that there was nothing from either club.
“There was a lot of interest, concrete interest, you weighed things up a bit, it had to work out for both the club and me, and it didn’t happen,” he told TV 2.
“It’s always nice to sit in a position and know that there were clubs that were very interested.”
“There is nothing negative about clubs of that size being mentioned, but you shouldn’t put too much into it,” he added when asked about the Chelsea and Liverpool rumours.
“It can be flared up by very little, and it is not necessarily always right, even if there were big and interesting clubs that were in the picture. Not everything on the internet is true.”
