No matter what you think about him these days, it’s hard to deny José Mourinho his achievements as a manager.

The current Manchester United head coach has a large collection of winners’ medals at home, and he never shies away from reminding the media of them when things go against him.

The last few years haven’t been as successful, appearing to weigh on him, showing in his demeanour in the weekly press conferences, at least to the general populace, and echoed in the many stories emanating from ‘sources close to the club/situation/manager’s once removed distant cousin’.

However, when it comes to stories from those who are currently working/have worked with him closely, you’ll find few who have bad things to say about him, or at least willing to to do so.

The whole situation at Manchester United seems to suggest José Mourinho could be out of touch with how he approaches certain aspects of his job in this day and age, leading to some players appearing unwilling to give their all on the pitch for their manager.

However, for Diego Milito, that shouldn’t be the case, as getting players motivated is what the Portuguese excels at.

He told Corriere dello Sport: “He’s the manager who says the right thing at the right time, who understands the moments, who manages to get any player to perform at 100%. Not everyone can do that. Mourinho is one of the best in the world. No arguments there.”

Looking at last year’s Sevilla game, that couldn’t be any further from the truth, but then you have the comeback against Manchester City, where something clearly clicked at half-time.

So is it just a case that certain Manchester United players aren’t buying what Mourinho has to sell anymore?
