Tuesday’s edition of L’Equipe is the French newspaper’s yearly look at wages in Ligue 1.
When it comes to Lyon, there’s two men said to be taking the most from the club, and those are Tanguy Ndombele, on loan from Tottenham, and Jerome Boateng, who arrived from Bayern Munich as a free agent.
Both are taking €350k a month from Lyon, but in the case of the midfielder that’s not all he’s receiving. His Tottenham wages were around €600k per month, with Spurs continuing to top up the €350k with another €150k a month, and the player taking a loss of €100k.
Last week we covered one of the latest claims from France which stated Ndombele isn’t having the impact expected after his return to Lyon on loan. His talent isn’t doubted, it rarely is, it’s just the actual impacting of games which can sometimes be an issue.
L’Equipe say the midfielder is ‘not destined to stay’ at the French club beyond the summer, but they add to that… ‘especially not at these conditions’.
Spurs are hardly likely to want to subsidise his wages even further, and Ndombele may not want a further pay cut, so that would kill that.
Quite why there was ever a €65m buying clause is the loan isn’t entirely clear.
