Even though it’s been over a year since Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz made his debut for Chile, his presence at the national team continues to be a big thing in the local media.
There’s obviously a little crisis at La Roja as they failed to get to the World Cup this year, and as they try to rebuild the team, the recent results haven’t been very good. Following defeats to South Korea, Tunisia and Ghana, they lost to Morocco at the weekend.
And as Arturo Vidal had a word with the Chilean press after the game, he was asked about Brereton Diaz’s performance. There, the national team star claimed the striker knows he’ll be competing at a higher level than at Blackburn.
“Ben Brereton is doing very well, he is improving a lot, he is getting used to the team and what the coach wants,” said Vidal (via La Tercera).
“Of course this is not the Championship, in the national teams you play at another level.”
Featuring for Chile so far, Diaz has four goals and one assist in 16 appearances. The biggest reason why there’s such curiosity about him in the squad is because he hasn’t learned to speak Spanish fluently yet.
La Roja now have a friendly against Qatar tomorrow, and the striker is then returning to Blackburn Rovers, as they play Millwall on Saturday.
