There’s huge excitement in the Netherlands ahead of Ajax facing Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League semi-finals.

This wasn’t expected for the Dutch club, and every high hurdle they’ve faced has been jumped, and often in some style.

Newspapers in the country are full of articles on both clubs and there appears to be a genuine good feeling ahead of the two matches.

De Telegraaf have spoken to Toby Alderweireld, and at the end of the interview he was joined by Jan Vertonghen.

The latter put his head around the door and that led the Dutch newspaper to ask if he’d answer a few questions too, especially with him also being a former Ajax player.

Vertonghen explained that he wasn’t able to, suggesting it’s a Tottenham policy for players who aren’t fit: “That’s not allowed for an injured player.”

So does this mean he’s unlikely to be available for Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday?

No, De Telegraaf say one thing became clear, Vertonghen will ‘almost certainly’ be there against Ajax.
